Why study childcare and education?
This qualification will prepare you to become an early years educator, giving you the knowledge and skills to work with children from birth to five years and knowledge of children age five to seven years. The level 3 diploma is equivalent to three A Levels and carries equivalent UCAS points.
What will I study?
You will study a variety of units including:
- child development
- child health and well-being
- play and learning
- supporting children with additional needs
- observation, and assessment and planning
You will gain a wealth of vocational practice by working in schools, nurseries and baby units for two days a week. You also will undertake additional training in first aid and will study qualifications in English and maths, if required.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed by a range of methods, including assignments, external assessments and practical observation.
Future pathways and careers
After successful completion of the two year course, you can progress to a foundation degree in childcare.
- At least five GCSEs at grades A to C (4-9), including English language and maths
- A keen interest in working with children
- A satisfactory DBS check
